Telerehabilitation for Older Adults Toolbox


This course is designed to empower clinicians with the knowledge to incorporate telerehabilitation into their regular practice to serve older adults better.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of how to apply telerehabilitation using current evidence to screen, examine, and treat older adults. Participants will also learn communication skills for older adults and ways to increase patient motivation to improve functional outcomes. In addition, the toolbox provides numerous treatment interventions and evidence-based examination tools to use with telerehabilitation.

Upon completion of this home study, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe patient and therapist views of telerehabilitation
  2. List criteria for patient selection to use telerehabilitation
  3. Complete a cranial nerve exam using telerehabilitation
  4. Develop an individualized intervention plan for an older adult with a musculoskeletal condition using telerehabilitaion to deliver.
  5. List tests identified as having properties to predict fall risk and modifications for telerehabilitation.
  6. List the components of telerehabilitation documentation.
  7. Describe the advantages and challenges delivering rehabilitation with telerehabilitation.
  8. Discuss clinical screening and examination tools for multiple conditions including gait and balance, posture, pain, cardiopulmonary, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease.
  9. Integrate information about telerehabilitation to provide evidence based, safe, current and comprehensive care.

Course Format: This is a 20 hour home study that consists of a book and workbook that you do at home.  It is not a certification course.

Target Audience: Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapist Assistant.

Instructional Level:Intermediate

Criteria for Completion:

The test is taken after the home study test is completed. A score over 70% on the test more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.
